Well-Known Strangers FOR 2016 GALA
WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE LARRY JEROME'S DAUTHER AND HER BAND FOR OUR 2016 WORLD CUP GALA
Well-Known Strangers is South-East Wisconsin’s cello infused alternative pop/rock band that has taken the Milwaukee/Chicago scene by storm. Founded in late 2014, Well-Known Strangers is quickly making its name known throughout southeast Wisconsin and Chicago. The group mines a sophisticated alternative pop-rock sound that is anchored in the collective and rich musical experiences of each member. Centered on a powerful and emotive female vocals and stately cello, and reinforced by strong songwriting and incredible musicality, Well-Known Strangers has a unique sound that is reminiscent of familiar pop-rock of the ‘90s while being expressively groundbreaking and melodically rich.
Well-Known Strangers is Joe Adamek (acoustic guitar), Betsy Ade (vocals), Sacia Jerome (cello), Theodore Koth (lead guitar and banjo), Roger Gower (drums/percussion), and John Kulas (bass guitar). With Joe and Betsy as the main songwriters, the band’s creative spark is enhanced collectively through the experience and musical knowledge of the other members. Betsy’s rich lyrical gifts are essential to the band's overall sound and direction, and her vocal delivery is unmatched in contemporary pop-rock music. Joe plays rhythm guitar, took formal piano instruction, and spent just over a decade playing drums and bass guitar in several bands throughout southeast Wisconsin. Sacia is a classically trained, actively working orchestral and chamber music musician who plays with regional symphonies including Festival City, Racine, Kenosha, Oshkosh, and The Wisconsin Philharmonic. Theodore, also classically trained, has been playing lead guitar for several bands in the area, as well as musical projects on the East Coast. Roger plays a wide variety of percussion, is a DW loyalist and fanatic, and has been very successful in establishing his percussive reputation with several regional/local projects. John Kulas is an all-around excellent guitarist, whose diverse abilities allow him to focus his skills on bass. The sonic diversity generated by this impressive conglomerate of musicians is what allows Well-Known Strangers to stand out and shine above the din of the contemporary music scene. All of Well-Known Strangers’ current repertoire can be found on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and more, and can also be heard on Pandora and Apple Music.
The group came together in September 2014 in a fevered pitch of creative inspiration. “I was thinking of the Goo Goo Dolls, Guster, and even the Beatles’ ‘Eleanor Rigby,’ —using the orchestral fullness of the cello in a pop-rock context,” Joe says. During his busy schedule, Joe began testing the waters with his new originals that were elegantly simple and built around showcasing Betsy’s vocals, the richness of the cello, and infectious hooks. “The first time Sacia came down, I heard the sound I had been searching for, the songs went up 10 levels,” Joe says. Drummer Roger Gower adds: “As we played through the first song, the sense was that we were embarking on something bigger than we imagined.” The band quickly recorded two songs into an iPhone and soon garnered interest from major music industry players. “The name has two layers,” Joe explains. “One layer refers to the band—how everyone in the band is well-known in the local musical scene, but a few of the members didn’t really know each other on a personal level, so we’re strangers in a way. The other layer refers to the content of some of the songs. Much of the content in these songs is about people and life elements that while intertwined, are sometimes disconnected and, in a way, ‘strangers’ with inexplicably meaningful connections.”
Currently, Well-Known Strangers has released their debut EP Found to much acclaim, and is prepping to start touring throughout the upper Midwest, including the greater Chicago area. With their eyes on a national tour, WKS is constantly adding and working on new material, intensely refining their live performance, and connecting with their every growing fan base. Additionally, 2016 will find WKS back in the studio to record their first full-length album.
“Once in a while, I come across an independent artist or band, that leaves me speechless. And I’ve been told, that’s a very hard thing to do! But they managed to do just that with their debut single ‘Another Sun‘. - http://dutchguy.tv/wednesday-qa-well-known-strangers/#sthash.kdpsp4s6.dpuf
